iXsystems has announced the release of PC-BSD 1.5, a user-friendly desktop operating system based on FreeBSD: "iXsystemsannounced today the release of PC-BSD Edison edition. PC-BSD is a fullyfunctional open source desktop operating system based on FreeBSD6.3-STABLE. FreeBSD is one of the most used UNIX-like operating systemsin the world and is widely renowned as the most stable and secureserver operating system. Highlights of the Edison edition includeavailability of an AMD 64-bit version for faster performance onhardware currently running 64-bit Intel or Athlon processors. Other newbuilt-in features include X.Org 7.3, KDE 3.5.8, a new system updatertool, improvements to the PBI Removal and WiFi tools, BSSID support andimproved SSID support, a new sound detection program, and a new PBIicon preview library."
