在历经两个 RC 版本之后，LFS（Linux From Scratch）团队推出了 6.6 正式版。自 LFS 6.5 以来，该版本的显著更改包括 Linux 2.6.32.8、GCC 4.4.3、Glibc 2.11.1 等。除此之外，LFS 6.6 也包含一些安全方面的修正。
LFS──Linux from  Scratch，就是一种从网上直接下载源码，从头编译LINUX的安装方式。它不是发行版，只是一个菜谱，告诉你到哪里去买菜(下载源码)，怎么把这些 生东西( raw code)  作成符合自己口味的菜肴──个性化的linux，不单单是个性的桌面。lfs最大的优势就是，安装LFS是菜鸟变成高手的捷径。

Linux From Scratch
(LFS) 6.6, a  free e-book that gives step-by-step instructions on how to build a base  Linux system by compiling source code of the Linux kernel, GNU utilities  and other basic components: "The Linux From Scratch  community is pleased to announce the release of Linux From Scratch  version 6.6. This release includes numerous changes to LFS 6.5  (including updates to Linux kernel 2.6.32.8, GCC 4.4.3, glibc 2.11.1)  and security fixes. It also includes editorial work on the explanatory  material throughout the book, improving both the clarity and accuracy of  the text."
