What that bit is saying is simply that when you run an experimental
kernel there is a risk that it has bugs - even more bugs than normal -
some of these bugs may destroy your filesystem or cause random
corruption. So it is important that you have a backup of any important
files you can't risk loosing if you run experimental kernels.

Backups are a good thing to have in any case, but when you run
experimental kernels it is even more important.

Did that make it more clear?

apply/revert is not exactely the same as install/uninstall, but it is
close enough.

http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/apply   (I'm using 'apply' in the '1d' sense)
"1d : to put into operation or effect <apply a law>"

http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/revert   (I'm using apply in the '1' sense)
"1 : to come or go back (as to a former condition, period, or subject)"
