Reinstall GRUB after installing windows XP
时间:2006-05-24 来源:rdd
I'd got a working dual-boot of Ubuntu and windows XP.Because there is something wrong with winows XP,i reinstalled it.Reinstalling windows XP led to overwrite MBR so that GRUB was missing. It would always be good to have a linux Live CD handy.I restored my GRUB and everything's got working .
1. Boot from a Knoppix Live CD.
2. Open a Terminal. Go SuperUser by typing "su" .
3. Type "grub" which makes a GRUB prompt appear.
4. Type "find /boot/grub/stage1". I got a response like "(hd0,3)",maybe you'll get something like (hd0).
5. Type "root (hd0,3)".
6. Type "setup (hd0)" to write GRUB to the MBR.
7. Type "quit".
8. Restart the system. Remove the bootable CD.
I think this method will work in a non-Ubuntu distro too.But i can't guarentee it.If you have any problem, just ask google,:)
